Cloud hosting provider Swiss Cloud suffered a ransomware attack

Swiss cloud hosting provider Swiss Cloud has suffered a ransomware attack that seriously impacted its server infrastructure.

On April 27 the Swiss cloud hosting provider was hit by a ransomware attack that brought down the company’s server infrastructure.

The company is currently working to restore operations from its backups with the help of experts from HPE and Microsoft.

“After the cyber attack on April 27, work is proceeding to clean up the systems and restore normal operations at swiss cloud computing ag. The backup systems can be used for recovery. Parts of the complex server network affected by the attack must first be cleaned up individually and reconfigured with the corresponding temporal effects. The work to clean up and restore the servers, for which swiss cloud computing ag is supported by specialists from the system partners of HPE and Microsoft, gives reason to be confident that the systems will be available again in the course of the coming week. The work will also continue on weekends in 24-hour shifts.” reads a statement published by the company on its status page.

“On Monday morning, May 3rd, swiss cloud computing ag will inform you again about the current status and outlook.”

The impacted servers are expected to be restored by next week.

At the time of this writing, the company did not provide information about the security breach such as the family of malware involved, the ransom demanded, either the way attackers breached the hosting provider.

According to TheRecord, the ransomware infection has impacted more than 6,500 customers of the provider, including the German HR software giant Sage.
