VMware addresses critical RCE in vRealize Business for Cloud

VMware has fixed a new critical RCE flaw in VMware vRealize Business for Cloud that was reported by sanctioned Russian firm Positive Technologies.

VMware has addressed a critical remote code execution vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2021-21984, in VMware vRealize Business for Cloud. vRealize Business for Cloud is an automated cloud business management solution that allows customers to perform cost analysis, consumption metering, cloud comparison, and planning, delivering the cost visibility and business insights to efficiently run their cloud.

The issue was reported by Positive Technologies, one of the Russian firms that were recently sanctioned by the United States for providing support to the cyber operations carried out by Russian Intelligence Services:

“VMware vRealize Business for Cloud contains a remote code execution vulnerability due to an unauthorised end point.” reads the advisory published by the virtualization giant. “A malicious actor with network access may exploit this issue causing unauthorised remote code execution on vRealize Business for Cloud Virtual Appliance.”

The vulnerability has been rated as critical and received a CVSSv3 base score of 9.8, it could be easily exploited by attackers without any privileges.

 The company has addressed the issue with the release of VMware vRealize Business for Cloud 7.6.0.
