Spain’s Ministry of Labor and Social Economy (MITES) was hit by a cyberattack on Wednesday and is working to restore impacted services.
MITES is a ministerial department with an annual budget of almost €39 million, charged with coordinating and supervising Spain’s employment, social economy, and corporate social responsibility policies.
“The Ministry of Labor and Social Economy has been affected by a computer attack. The technical officials of the Ministry and of the National Cryptological Center are working together to determine the origin and restore normality as soon as possible,“ the Ministry said.
The website of the ministry’s website was still up despite the attack, but the communications office and the multimedia room were not available.
“The computer attack that the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy has suffered has NOT affected the operation of the State Public Employment Service,” SEPE said.
“The Electronic Office, the website and the set of services continue to be provided normally.”
“The department headed by the Third Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Diaz, has pointed out that the technical managers of the Ministry and the National Cryptological Center are working together to determine the origin and restore normality as soon as possible.” reported SpainNews.
It’s about the second cyber attack that hit Labor this year, in March the Ryuk ransomware -gang targeted the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) blocking its services.
