A threat actor that goes online with the moniker ‘Sangkancil’ claims to have stolen the personal information of 7 million Israelis from the CITY4U website. The hacker is offering the data for sale, but did not disclose the price for the complete archive.
Israel’s National Cyber Directorate is investigating the alleged security breach.
The threat actor added that it has successfully infiltrated a number of municipalities, but according to initial investigation the leaked document contained old data.
As a proof of the hack, Sangkancil published images of the stolen documents, including Israeli identity cards, driver’s licenses and tax bills.
Below is the ad published by the hacker on a hacker forum:
“The databases include:
Identity information of 90% of Israeli citizens
Real estate documents of Israeli citizens and ….
Data volume and documents:
7 Million Records with attached document”
“This is my first surprise for the Jewish new year. Enjoy!” the threat actor wrote, referring to this week’s Rosh Hashanah holiday.
