CISA adds Windows CLFS Driver Privilege Escalation flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog

The U.S. CISA added the CVE-2022-24521 Microsoft Windows CLFS Driver Privilege Escalation Vulnerability to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog.

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) added the CVE-2022-24521 privilege escalation vulnerability in Microsoft Windows Common Log File System (CLFS) Driver.

According to Binding Operational Directive (BOD) 22-01: Reducing the Significant Risk of Known Exploited Vulnerabilities, FCEB agencies have to address the identified vulnerabilities by the due date to protect their networks against attacks exploiting the flaws in the catalog.

Experts recommend also private organizations review the Catalog and address the vulnerabilities in their infrastructure.

The CVE-2022-24521 vulnerability was addressed by Microsoft with the release of Patch Tuesday security updates for April 2022. The flaw was reported by the NSA which likely observed its exploitation in attacks conducted by APT groups.

The vulnerabilities added to the catalog have to be addressed by federal agencies by May 04, 2022.
