The car rental company Sixt detected IT anomalies on April 29th, 2022 and immediately activated the incident response procedures. Later, the company confirmed that it was hit by a cyber-attack that was quickly contained, but that caused temporary business disruptions at customer care centers and selective branches.
“As a standard precautionary measure, access to IT systems was immediately restricted and the pre-planned recovery processes were initiated. Many central Sixt systems, in particular the website and apps were kept up and running.” reads a statement issued by the company. Thereby, impacts on the company, its operations and services have been minimized to provide business continuity for customers. However, temporary disruptions, in particular in customer care centers and selective branches, are likely to occur in the short term.”
Sixt launched an investigation into the incident with the help of external forensics experts. The company announced that it will provide further updates as soon as more information is available.
