OpenSSL to fix the second critical flaw ever

The OpenSSL Project announced an upcoming update to address a critical vulnerability in the open-source toolkit.

The OpenSSL Project announced that it is going to release updates to address a critical vulnerability in the open-source toolkit. Experts pointed out that it is the first critical vulnerability patched in toolkit since September 2016.

“The OpenSSL project team would like to announce the forthcoming release of OpenSSL version 3.0.7. This release will be made available on Tuesday 1st November 2022 between 1300-1700 UTC.” reads the announcement. “OpenSSL 3.0.7 is a security-fix release. The highest severity issue fixed in this release is CRITICAL:”

The critical vulnerability only impacts versions 3.0 and later. This is the second critical vulnerability ever addressed by the OpenSSL Project after the critical Heartbleed vulnerability (CVE-2014-0160) in 2014.

The 3.0.7 version is respected to be released next week, on November 1, with the maintainers that defined it as a ‘security-fix release.’

OpenSSL Project also announced the upcoming bug-fix release 1.1.1s which will be released the same day.
