SAP released 6 Security Notes as part of the April 2019 Security Patch Day, two of which address High severity flaws in Crystal Reports and NetWeaver.
SAP April 2019 Security Patch Day addressed a High risk information disclosure issue in Crystal Reports tracked as CVE-2019-0285 (CVSS Base Score: 7.5). The vulnerability could allow an attacker to access details such as system data, debugging information, and other information.
Another High risk vulnerability fixed by SAP is a spoofing attack flaw affecting NetWeaver Java Application Server. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2019-0283 (CVSS Base Score: 7.1), could be exploited by an attacker to spoof the data being displayed to the user.
Below the other vulberabilities addressed this month by SAP:
Title |
Update to security note release on February 2019 Patch Day: [CVE-2019-0265] XML External Entity (XXE) vulnerability in SLD Registration of SAP NetWeaver and ABAP Platform |
[CVE-2019-0279] Missing Authorization check for ABAP INST function module |
[CVE-2019-0282] Information Disclosure in NetWeaver PI Runtime Workbench |
[CVE-2019-0284] XML External Entity vulnerability in SAP HANA sldreg |
[CVE-2019-0278] Information Disclosure in the SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (Messaging System) |
Update to security note release on January 2019 Patch Day: [CVE-2018-2484] Missing Authorization check in SAP Enterprise Financial Services |
SAP also patched a critical XML External Entity vulnerability now patched in SAP HANA. This vulnerability is easily exploitable could be used in a targeted attack to remotely access critical files from the server and steal any web app custom code (confidentiality). The flaw could be also exploited to launch a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack by stopping a Web App running on top of XSA, resulting in taking systems offline and making them unavailable (availability).
“Special attention should be paid to this critical vulnerability for its likelihood to be used in a targeted attack, based on its ease of exploitability and the potential negative impact to business continuity. If not patched, the vulnerability would allow an attacker to remotely access critical files from the server and steal any web app custom code (confidentiality).” reads the analysis published by security firm Onapsis. “The attacker could also generate a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack by stopping a Web App running on top of XSA, resulting in taking systems offline and making them unavailable (availability).”
The April 2019 Security Patch Day also includes updates for three previous security notes, including the Hot News note that delivers security updates for the browser control Google Chromium delivered with SAP Business Client, released as part of the April 2018 Patch Day.
SAP also addressed an XXE bug in SLD Registration of NetWeaver and ABAP Platform (CVE-2019-0265), and a missing authorization check in Enterprise Financial Services (CVE-2018-2484).
Security firm ERPScan published an interesting analysis of the
April 2019 Security Patch Day, below the key findings included in the blog post published by the company:
“Three notes are updates to the previous security note release. One of them received Hot News priority rating. The most severe security issue was assessed at 7.5 by CVSS base score. This time, Missing Authorization Check is still the largest group in terms of the number of vulnerabilities.”
