The Réunion des Musées Nationaux network, including Paris’ Grand Palais and other museums, was hit by a ransomware attack.

A ransomware attack hit the Réunion des Musées Nationaux network, including Paris’ Grand Palais and other museums. The attack impacted around 40 museums across France. The attack occurred on Sunday, and despite some affected venues are hosting Summer Olympics competitions, the incident had no impact on the Olympic Games.

French authorities said that at this time there is no evidence of data breach

“To date, no data extraction has been detected,” the Grand Palais-RMN said in a statement.

The Grand Palais-RMN technical teams are “fully mobilized” to mitigate the incident “as best as possible.”

The Grand Palais is hosting fencing and taekwondo competitions, while the Château de Versailles is the venue for equestrian sports and the modern pentathlon.

The Paris prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into the incident and tasked the Brigade for Combating Cybercrime with investigating the ransomware attack.

French government experts are working to recover the impacted systems and secure them
