Galaxy S10 is the first 5G phone that can be used by US DoD

Samsung announced that the Galaxy S10, the Galaxy S9, and Galaxy Note 9 have obtained the Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) approval

Other Samsung devices are included in the list of smartphones that can be used by the US federal government of the, they are the Galaxy S10, the Galaxy S9, and Galaxy Note 9.

The above devices have achieved the Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) approval that certifies that they can be used for high-sensitive environments, such as the military.

STIG approval ensures the maximum level of security for sensitive military data and improves the security of DoD information systems. Samsung added that Samsung Knox meets STIG requirements when the appropriate APIs are applied to lock down the device.

Samsung received the STIG approval for the entire Galaxy S10 series, including the S10 5G, that for this reason is the first 5G device to be approved for the federal government.

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., announces that its flagship products continue to obtain federal certification with the recent approval of the Samsung Galaxy S10 series, Note9 and Galaxy S9 join the Galaxy S8/S8+ and Note8 in the receiving Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) approval necessary for deployment within the Department of Defense (DoD).” reads the official announcement published by Samsung.

“With the full S10 series approved, including the S10 5G, this marks the first 5G device to receive STIG approval for the federal government that will allow the federal workforce to take advantage of 5G-enabled environments.”

STIG approval could help the diffusions of Samsung devices within the federal workforce in various sectors.

Samsung has worked with standards bodies to achieve this important approval that certificates that devices meet the needs of the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), through the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation as set by the Defense Information Security Agency (DISA).

Samsung pointed out that its devices meet the standards required by stringent certifications such as Common Criteria and the NIAP Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS).

“In the past, federal agencies haven’t been able to enjoy a wide selection of tailored mobile solutions like they do today,” said Chris Balcik, Vice President of Federal, Samsung Electronics America. “The recent launch of the Galaxy S10 5G coupled with growth of 5G networks has unlocked a new era in federal use cases. From enabling ‘smart’ connectivity on military bases to aid mission coordinating and tactical execution, we are about to witness how the entire landscape will change.”
