The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) resentenced the former administrator of the popular BreachForums hacking forum BreachForums to three years in prison.

The U.S. DoJ resentenced the former BreachForums administrator, Conor Brian Fitzpatrick (aka Pompompurin), 22, to three years in prison. Authorities say he ran the notorious hacking forum, which traded stolen data and cybercrime tools, fueling large-scale breaches.

In July 2023, Fitzpatrick agreed to plead guilty to a three-count criminal information charging the defendant with conspiracy to commit access device fraud, solicitation for the purpose of offering access devices, and possession of child pornography.

BreachForums functioned as a cybercrime marketplace, enabling its members to engage in the solicitation, sale, purchase, and exchange of illicitly obtained or compromised data, along with various contraband items. Traded goods included stolen access devices, cybercrime tools, compromised databases, and services aimed at gaining unauthorized access to targeted systems.

In March 2023, U.S. law enforcement arrested Pompompurin, the agents spent hours inside and outside the suspect’s home and were seen removing several bags of evidence from the house.

The man has been charged with soliciting individuals with the purpose of selling unauthorized access devices. Fitzpatrick was released on a $300,000 bond signed by his parents.

In January 2024, Conor Brian Fitzpatrick was sentenced to 20 years of supervised release.

The BreachForums hacking forum was launched in 2022 after the law enforcement authorities seized RaidForums as a result of Operation TOURNIQUET. pompompurin always declared that he was ‘not affiliated with RaidForums in any capacity,’

The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) this week resentenced Fitzpatrick to three years in prison for his role in running the cybercrime forum and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

“Earlier today, a New York man was resentenced to three years in prison for his creation and operation of BreachForums, a marketplace for cybercriminals to buy, sell, and trade hacked or stolen data and other contraband, and for possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).” reads the press release published by DoJ.

Fitzpatrick also agreed to forfeit more than 100 domain names used to run BreachForums, over a dozen electronic devices tied to the scheme, and cryptocurrency obtained through criminal activities.

“Following the dismantlement of RaidForums by law enforcement, the defendant set up and administered BreachForums, an online bazaar where criminals could purchase sensitive data,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “Today’s sentence demonstrates the Justice Department’s unwavering commitment to bringing to justice those who seek to sell stolen data to the highest bidder. To those seeking to operate a similar forum, take note: we will tirelessly investigate those who commit these crimes.”
