The City of London Police this week announced the arrest of a 17-year-old teenager on suspicion of hacking. Is he the Uber hacker?

The City of London Police on Friday announced to have arrested a 17-year-old teenager on suspicion of hacking, however, experts believe the arrest could be linked to the recent security breaches suffered by Uber and Rockstar Games.

The threat actor behind the Uber hack, which goes online by the moniker Tea Pot (aka teapotuberhacker), also claimed to have Rockstar Games, the gaming firm behind GTA 6.

The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by City of London Police with the U.K. National Crime Agency’s cybercrime unit.

“On the evening of Thursday 22 September 2022, the City of London Police arrested a 17-year-old in Oxfordshire on suspicion of hacking, as part of an investigation supported by the @NCA_UK’s National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU).” the agency said. “He remains in police custody.”

The UK police did not disclose additional details about the investigation.

Early this week, Uber revealed additional details about the recent security breach, the company believes that the threat actor behind the intrusion is affiliated with the LAPSUS$ hacking group.

This week, security firm Flashpoint published an analysis of the Grand Theft Auto VI’ Data Breach and revealed that the identity of the hacker behind the two incidents has been outed on an online illicit forum.

“On the day that the original post was made, Flashpoint analysts found that teapotuberhacker’s real world identity had been outed on an online illicit forum. In that thread, titled “The Person Who Hacked GTA 6 and Uber is Arion,” the administrator for that forum claimed that teapotuberhacker was the same individual who had allegedly hacked Microsoft and “owned” Doxbin.” reads the report published by FlashPoint. “Additionally, the administrator linked teapotuberhacker to other aliases like “White” and “Breachbase, and stated he was a member of LAPSUS$.”
